Scope and Content

Dearest Aunt Em, Yesterday afternoon at 5.45 another little son was sent to us to train for God. Surely we are highly honoured, though of course a daughter would have been a great treasure. What shall we call him? [Sixter?] or [Surior?]not I think, fide. Both have had an Excellent night. Yours ever affectly Samuel Bickersteth.

Love to all the Chittenders.

The paper has, 'The Vicarage, Lewisham, SE' printed on it in black ink. Also an emblem printed on the top left-hand corner, in black ink with the words, 'FRAPE FORTE' and a raised arm holding a baton.
