This collection comprises circular letters sent by the Central Midwives Board to the Principle Midwifery Tutor of the Midwifery Training Unit at Southmead Hospital in Bristol (2 June 1965-2 December 1977), relating to the management of midwifery and obstetric training schools, as well as the developments in the education and training of midwives, with particular references to the syllabus of midwifery courses, examinations, and examination fees, the operation of analgesia apparatus by midwives, pupil case books, performance of episiotomies by midwives, blood tests, domiciliary training, the teaching of parenting by midwives, male midwives and health visitors, reorganisation of the National Health Service, contraception and family planning, health legislation affecting the midwifery profession, sick and annual leave entitlement of pupil midwives, the Sex Discrimination Act of 1975, together with midwifery course reports and timetables.
