Papers of Diane Hartley

This collection comprises letters, lecture notes, research notes and printed material of Diane Hartley, nurse and author (1932-1957), relating to the publication and distribution her pamphlet entitled, of ‘The Key to Mothercraft’, first published in 1934, also concerning the education of pregnant women and mothers of infants, with particular references to the advantages and disadvantages of different modes of infantile feeding, including breastfeeding.

Diana Hartley (fl. 1900-1980) trained as a nurse at the Royal Naval and Marine Maternity Nursing Home, Kent in 1926 and then the Royal West Sussex Hospital in 1928. She went on to write a pamphlet entitled, ‘The Key to Mothercraft’, which was published in 1934, before becoming the Secretary of the Trained Nurses’ Association of India in 1935.
