Papers of Winifred Luxton

This collection comprises eight ms case registers, interspersed with notifications for sending for medical help, belonging to Winifred Luxton, a midwife who trained in Hull and then went on to practise in Surrey, Hertfordshire and Kent (22 May 1934-22 August 1972), recording the births that she attended, including details of the name, age, address and pregnancy history of the patient, the date and hour of the birth, the sex of the child, whether the child was born living or dead, the name of the doctor if called and also if there were any complications during or after labour, together with a printed certificate, issued to her by the Central Midwives Board, confirming that she had completed her training in the administration of nitrous oxide and air at Farnborough General Hospital (26 April 1946), also accompanied by three further printed certificates, awarded to her by the Royal College of Midwives, confirming that she attended refresher courses for midwives in Manchester, Harrogate and Westcliff (8-14 September 1957, 15-21 October 1961 and 23-29 October 1966).

Throughout her extensive career as a midwife, Winifred Majorie Luxton (fl. 1900-1990) practised at various locations across the United Kingdom, including Hull, Letchworth in Hertfordshire, Haselmere in Surrey, Wimbledon in South London, St. Paul's Cray and then Maidstone in Kent.
