Letter from RD to his family, relating to: his recent operation and recuperation, which may prevent him from acting in Captain Blood for Warners; his desire to move away from being typecast in 'costume' film parts; his legal dispute with Warners over a letter of agreement; the Buffalo Times poll [see DON/84]; his refusal of an offer from MGM to play the lead in a film opposite [Greta] Garbo; [Alexander] Korda's numerous British film offers; his satisfaction with The 39 steps; and his exclusion from the Academy Award voting [for Monte Cristo].
