Scope and Content

Letter from RD to his mother, relating to: his finances; the postponement of rationing in Britain; his recent performances at Golders Green, which have not been well attended because of enemy aircraft activity; the blackout in London; the success of their recent provincial performances; his determination to be his own boss in the theatre in future; and his refusal to go to Hollywood and make a film about Pastor Niemöller [at MGM's request]. In a postscript he briefly discusses the war and the possibility of Hitler attempting to invade England.
