Scope and Content

The letters concern war work for artists and Paul Nash's Arts Bureau in Oxford (TGA 7050/998), exhibitions of Nicholson's and Nash's work particularly for P.E.N (TGA 7050/1001), Aid China, Aid Russia (TGA 7050/1003) and Temple Newsam (TGA 7050/1004 and 1006), the Cornish landscape, Nicholson's war work in the Home Guard (TGA 7050/1009), articles by Nicholson, Nash, Philip Hendy and Winifred Nicholson, the Penguin series of monographs (TGA 7050/1004) and Paul Nash's war paintings (TGA 7050/1009). Includes two letters from Barbara Hepworth to Paul Nash regarding their joint show at Temple Newsam and Philip Hendy's article (TGA 7050/1005 and 1007). The collection also includes brief references to Adrian Stokes, Naum Gabo and William Coldstream. TGA 7050/1010 features pencil notes by Paul Nash on reverse.
