Scope and Content

Largely concerning the publication of a book of Paul Nash photographs 'An Artists Notebook', renamed and republished as 'Fertile Image', 1951 (TGA 7050/2310-2345). The letters refer to all aspects of the publication including royalties, dates, its tie-in with an Arts Council photographic exhibition ('Paul Nash's Camera'), American editions and publication rights, Margaret Nash's contract, the dummy book and corrections, the cost of materials, the order of the photographs and the introduction. The letters include three letters to and from Raymond Mortimer, Margaret's first choice of author for the introduction (TGA 7050/2314, 2318-20), and reference to James Laver who actually wrote it (TGA 7050/2319-21, 2323, 2327, 2330, 2335, 2337). Also dummy for 'An Artist's Notebook' (TGA 7050/2344). Together with letters referring to the Faber & Faber publication of 'Outline' (Paul Nash's autobiography) concerning royalties, American publishing rights, its meaning and appeal to buyers, corrections for a second edition, complimentary copies and sales in Canada (TGA 7050/2300-10). Also mentions Richard de la Mare's perusal of a manuscript 'Romantic Interlude' and an Anthony Bertram biography of Paul Nash (TGA 7050/2301, 2303).
