He has brought a portrait of Auchinleck with him; thinks he probably will be joining Auchinleck in future and does not fancy staying in Delhi because of the heat. Describes a tea at the Viceregal Lodge where he unpacked the Auchinleck portrait, which was undamaged (he had brought it with him on his sea voyage).
