Scope and Content

To his mother, travelling by train to Bombay; comments on Wavell's new appointment with ABDAcom [a short-lived united command for British, Australian, American and Dutch forces in SE Asia; Wavell was head and Henry Pownall was his chief-of-staff]; General Hutton has gone to Burma [General Thomas Jacomb Hutton 1891-1980, briefly commanded British forces in Burma in 1942 ]; enjoys the company of Wavell's daughters. Has visited the North West Frontier, had lunch with Governor, Sir George Cunningham and also met Evelyn Cobb , an old Wykehamists. He has heard it rumoured that Auchinleck may return as C in C of India, which would be "too good to be true".
