Documents (12) relating to various quillets and closes of land in Amlwch which belonged as of right to the Bishops of Bangor for the time being

The rectory and rectorial lands of Amlwch had for long years been annexed to the Archdeaconry of Anglesey, and the Archdeaconry had, since 1685, been legally annexed to the Bishopric of Bangor (Browne Willis:Bangor, 140, 285). About 1776 the then Lord Bishop, the Dr John Moore who in 1783 became Archbishop of Canterbury, leased these various premises for three lives to William Eden, afterwards the first Lord Auckland (for the conditions of ecclesiastical leasing, see Jacob's Law Dictionary, under Leases by Statute); Eden then proceeded to sub-lease to diverse people in the Amlwch district, especially to John Priceof Mona Lodge (Pedigrees, 155), to the (late) Rev. Edward Hughes of Kinmel in trust for his nephew W. Lewis Hughes, first Lord Dinorben. Note. The Bishop's lease to Eden in 1776 was not unnatural, as the former's second wife (whom he had married in 1770), was the daughter of Sir Robert Eden, Bart., of West Auckland.
