This Nichols Owen was the well-known Nicholas Owen author of "British Remains" (for a good deal about him, see Bangor MS. 2408), whose father was also a Nicholas Owen, and rector of Llandyfrydog. Though the son is described here as of "Llandyfrydog, clerk", there is no evidence that he was ever made rector there. On the dorse is a receipt that he has received £208.5.6. from John Jones of Rating Row, Beaumaris being the principal money and interest due on the assignment," and I engage to execute an assignment thereof when thereunto required" (15 April 1811). This was just two months before his death (at Bottwnog, of which he was rector since 1800).
Assignment and ratification of a mortgage upon Derry Issa, parish of Llandyfrydog from Robert Allen and his wife (Beaumaris) and Owen Owen (Aber, co.Carn), to Nicholas Owen, clerk, of Llandyfrydog, to secure £200 and interest.
