Scope and Content

incorporating the settlement of the Rhosfawr estate in Eifionydd by Margaret Glynn(e) alias Williams, widow of John ap William ap John of Llannor, the chief of two feofees being her uncle Ellis Ellis of Ystumllyn and Pryscynni by Clynnog; main lands comprised Rhosfawr in Aber-erch, Bodegroes in Llannor, Melin Newydd with quillets in Deneio, two messuages in Pwllheli, Tyddyn y Gelli Hir, Cae Evan Hen, Dryll y Cafn, Bryn Gwdyn (mainly in Llanarmon, some in Aberdaron); arrangements for inheritance and succession, after the death of Margaret Glynne, to the sons and daughters referred to in Pedigrees, 239. M.G. was directly descended from Dr. William Glynne, Bishop of Bangor (1555-1558) whose brother was the Dr. Jeffrey Glynne who founded Friars' School.

It is rather curious that the three witnesses to the sealing and delivery were from Anglesey: Richard Lewis of Ucheldre [and Bodwina], Griffith Parry of Beaumaris; and Catherine Ellis, daughter of Thomas Williams of Bodlew, widow of Dr John Ellis, Precentor of St. David's and Chancellor of St. Asaph, sister-in-law to Ellis Ellis the trustee (no doubt it was to suit her convenience that the document was taken to Anglesey). Another point to notice - the feofee with Ellis Ellis was named Robert Prichard of Ty'nycoed in co. Caernarvon [without further definition], and signs with a lawyer's script - is it possible he was of the same family as the elder William Prichard of Caernarvon and Dinam, and has this document come down in the family from his time?
