which really consist of somewhat long articles written by the Rev. Hugh Davies to rebut the charges of Edward Donovan in the "Gentleman's Magazine" relating to the Trifurcated Hake. Donovan was, in his way, a very prominent and voluminous writer on natural history (see D.N.B.) (?), but had seen well to make an attack upon some of H.D.'s contributions to the British Zoology of Thomas Pennant. To make matters worse, the editor of the "Gentleman's Magazine" had refused to publish H.D.'s reply {there is no reference to this Magazine among the effects of H.D. in contrast to the special mention of it by the Rev. Robert Prichard in his will, DIN/155. These Extracts are printed, with marginal additions and notes in manuscript.
