Correspondence with Frederick C. Linfield

Scope and Content

Correspondence with Frederick Caesar Linfield (1861-1939), politician, relating an expression of thanks by Scott for an advance copy of the report [of the East Africa Parliamentary Commission] provided by Linfield. Also included is correspondence relating to the provision of an excerpt of a speech made by Sir Donald Cameron, colonial governor of Tanganyika at the dinner of the Dar-es-Salaam Chamber of Commerce, which concurs with the stance taken by the Manchester Guardian on land rights, and reference to an article by Linfield in The Contemporary Review on Empire Development, and discussion of the impact of the new railway. There is a request by Scott that Linfield provide information on developments in Tenganyika, and an enquiry as to any recommendations Linfield might make for a potential correspondent for the paper in the region. [Extract of speech included.]
