Drafts Of Letters in English from Thomas Pennant of Downing to Sicilian Noblemen [not named] together with Italian translations by Richard Morris: 1 Downing, 1 March 1755, (Italian translation). Thanks for opportunity to open learned correspondence with Prince [ ] through Mr Tatem, British Consul at Messina. Undertakes to send minerals, shells, sea plants, coral for the Prince's museum. Desires the Prince's protection while in Sicily. Refers to his own collection and his desire to add to it from Sicily. 2 Downing, March 15, 1755 (addressed to 'My Revd Father'). His intent to send minerals and petrifactions, shells, sea plants and corals found in Britain, in return for minerals, and stones as described by A. Scilla in his Lettera Responsiva circa i Corpi Marini. He will send his present to Mr George Tatem, British Consul at Messina. 3 Italian translation of 2. 4 [undated, c. 1756]. Thanks recipient for his gift. He will send him a collection of minerals, shells, corallines and sea plants found in the British Isles and a quantity of curious shells from the Indies. He is ashamed that the box which he sent his Excellency on Account in August 1755 should have remained so long in London. He thanks him for the Paper relating to the Peasant at Syracuse which he will lay before the Royal Society. 5 Italian translation of 4. 6 Note in Italian expressing T.P's wish to enter into correspondence with anyone interested in minerals, fossils, shells, sea plants. 7 Note explaining how to address an Italian Prince.
