Scope and Content

These are Julia Trevelyan Oman's original designs for a ballet based on the work of Edward Elgar. They were submitted to Ninette de Valois at the Royal Ballet but nothing initially came of the production. Several years later, Julia was contacted by Sir Frederick Ashton who remembered seeing these original designs. The designs were completely reworked into what became the ballet Enigma Variations.
