The Enigma Variations: 1968

Material relating to the ballet Enigma Variations which Julia devised alongside Sir Frederick Ashton. Early in her career Julia had presented early concepts for this production to then-director of the Royal Ballet Dame Ninette de Valois. Many years later, Sir Frederick Ashton came to Julia now ready to tackle the subject and Julia completely reworked her designs to suit her now more mature style. This series includes research material, notes on sets, costumes and characters, biographical details, sketches in various levels of details of the costumes, correspondence, mounted research material, mounted and unmounted sketches, stage drawings and plans, samples of various domestic fabrics, designs for records and publicity material and recordings of the final ballet.
