Three folders of contracts.
1. File of original contracts between Robert Stigwood Organisation for Frankie Howerd and a wide variety of employers, 1988-1991. The contracts, many for advertising engagements, chat show appearances, extract fees and one night stands and residencies at variety clubs, also include:
- Theatre Royal, Hanley: ‘Cinderella’ (1988) (£22,500);
- Extensive correspondence between Comissatio and RSO, with promotional literature and photographs, relating to Howerd’s promotional activities for a board game called Orgy. Includes initial approaches, details for a promotional evening, a contract for £10,000, and Comissatio’s insolvency notice, 12 April 1989;
- Tiger TV: ‘The Craig Ferguson Story’ (1991) (£1068.75);
- LWT: ‘Frankie Howerd On Campus’ (1990) (£10,000);
- LWT: ‘Further Up Pompeii’ (1991) (£3,750);
- Central TV: ‘Frankie Howerd As Himself’ (1992) (£10,000 per episode). This series was not carried forward due to Howerd’s death.
2. File entitled ‘Frankie Howerd TV, 1985-2006’, containing original contracts between Robert Stigwood Organisation for Frankie Howerd and a wide variety of employers and associated material, including:
- 20 page typescript of ‘The Craig Ferguson Story’, 16 November 1989;
- Five page typescript of ‘Norbert Smith: A Life’ (1989), with a covering letter from Geoffrey Perkins of Hat Trick Productions, 14 March 1989, and a reply from Tessa Le Bars;
- Letter from Julie Pryor, Proprietor of Comissatio and manufacturer of the board game Orgy, to Frankie Howerd, 12 May 1989, apologising for having gone bankrupt and so being unable to pay him;
- Letter from Morwenna Banks to Tessa Le Bars, undated, enclosing a copy of a letter Banks had written to Frankie Howerd about ‘All Change’ (1989-1991) and his proposed participation in Signals, a project examining the history of stand-up comedy;
- YTV: ‘Childsplay’ (1989-1991). A small quantity of contracts, call sheets and associated correspondence;
- BBC: ‘Arena’ (1990). Script outlines and associated material relating to the Arena episode ‘Oooh Er, Missus! The Frankie Howerd Story’, or ‘Please Yourselves’.
3. File entitled ‘Outstanding contracts – The Blunders’ containing correspondence between Tessa Le Bars and Film Fair, 1984-1989, relating to The Blunders (1986), including negotiations, publicity materials, press cuttings and merchandise.
