Scope and Content

Two folders of contracts and correspondence.
1. File containing original contracts between Robert Stigwood Organisation for Frankie Howerd and a wide variety of employers, 1982-1984, with a typed list of folder contents. The contracts, many for advertising engagements, chat show and panel game appearances, extract fees, and one night stands and residencies at variety clubs, also include:
- BBC: ‘Then Churchill Said To Me’ (1982, first screened 1993) (£2250 per episode) With correspondence between the writer Maurice Sellar and Howerd, 1978 onwards, discussing the idea and its development;
- Brent Walker Ltd.: ‘HMS Pinafore/Trial By Jury’ (1982) (£5000 plus add-ons). With Appendix. Both photocopies;
- Correspondence between Billy Forrest Entertainments and Tessa Le Bars, 1982, regarding a proposed appearance by Frankie Howerd at the Inn on the Park, Jersey;
- BBC: ‘All The World’s A Stage’ (1982, transmitted 1984) (£5,200);
- Chichester Festival Theatre: ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ (1982) (£15,260 for the run);
- Churchill Theatre Bromley: ‘The Fly and the Fox’ (1984) (£175 pw). Adaptation by Barry Took and Alick Morrison of Jonson’s ‘Volpone’. With indemnity agreement and contract signed by Barry Took;
- Holmes Associates: ‘Who Dares, Wins’ (1984) (£300).
2. File containing original correspondence between Robert Stigwood Organisation for Frankie Howerd and a wide variety of employers, 1985-1987, including:
- Gambit Enterprises: correspondence relating to ‘The Gong Show’ (1985), with two copies of the agreement;
- Century Hutchinson: a lengthy correspondence, 1985-1986, relating to plans for an autobiography, including a formal contract. This autobiography was never written.
