Scope and Content

Sketches of characters and characters in settings in graphite on 40 sheets of paper, inscribed in graphite with ms notes on colours and details, including references to costumes for the Duke of Norfolk,the Duke of York, John of Gaunt, Hotspur, Bolingbroke, the Bishop of Carlisle and the King. Seven sketches in graphite and watercolour on cartridge paper mounted on sheets of paper, two without notes, seem to be Hockley's 'finished sketches, five with pinholes in the top corners indicating that they had been pinned up. With an original folder inscribed in graphite by Hockley : 'Richard II'.
