Sketches of characters and characters in settings in graphite and watercolour on five sheets of paper, inscribed in graphite with ms notes of colours and settings, one referring to 'Tannhauser's left hand resting on Elizabeth's hand' and two to Venus and the fairies. Two of them include small graphite and watercolour sketches on cartridge paper mounted on sheets of paper. The watercolours seem to be Hockley's finished 'sketches, the pinholes in the top corners indicating that they had been pinned up.
