Scope and Content

in a sadly blurred and tattered condition (it was reclaimed from a salvage dump in March,1942). About 500pp. with index. It was once the property of Mr. A. Anwyl Passingham, a Bala attorney, who was in practice at Bala at least as early as 1868 (see Slater's Directory Western, for that year), and seems to be related to the Anwyls of Llanycil and Eryl Aran (e.g., on p.162 is a reference to the marriage (17 January, 1867) of T. Lloyd Anwyl of Eryl Aran to Miss Davies of Penpompren - by Talybont, Cards., not "of Aberystwyth", as given at the foot of the pedigrees in Dinam 18). Very variegated entries - such as the letter regarding the Dolgelley, Mawddwy, and Towyn Turnpike Trust (155), an inquiry about the property of the later Lloyds of Plas-yn-Dre (151), a letter to the R.S.Perrott of Oswestry who was related to the Ymwlch family (Cynhaiarn MSS.117-119), and the trouble over the Bala Labourers' Loan Society which looked like involving Dr.Owen Richards as one of the trustees (338) - that very challenging personality who had for a short time been a missionary on the Khassia Hills, returned to practice at Bala, and was on the list of active medical men there as late as 1883 (Slater's Directory). There is at least one entry in Welsh (p.141), probably written by a clerk, and several references to schools in the Bala neighbourhood, for whose governing bodies Mr. P. acted as clerk. The east window in Llanycil parish church is in memory of Mary Elizabeth and Augustus Anwyl Passingham, 1883.
