The book contains alchemical recipes, numbered 1-747, on pages 1-232, including: p.151 Copia di diversi secreti auti da un libro scritto in ciffra la maggior parte ; p.195 Divers secrets pour convertir d'autre especes inparfectes en argent fin; with an index on pages 233-274, lacking entries for the letter E in the missing pages [241-242]. There is a sketch of a furnace and other apparatus on p.113. A note in Italian at the top of the title page, with a rough sketch of a coat of arms and the date 1721, states that the writer, having tried out many of the recipes in the book, found them to be false. A note in Italian on the verso of the title page refers the reader to a course of chemistry by Niccolo Lemery, whose name also appears on p.109. A date is given on the inside back cover: May 1718. Book-plate on inside front cover: Federighi, with the number 1037. Inscription on title page: Appartiene a me Carl Antonio Tondi di Civerno 1718.
