Encloses 100 lire for Jim to buy book. Impossible to get dollars or pounds in Italy owing to Italian effort to pay off American debt. Volpi to head Italo-American Syndicate to exploit Near East. Italian energy awakening under influence of Mussolini. Has read Hocking and criticises his philosophy. Been to memorial service for Queen Alexandra.
