Letter from W.R. Paterson to Venn Paterson. Maison Senes, Moustiers Saint Marie, Basses Alpes, France, 8 Sep. 1941.
Had Venn's letter of August 11th yesterday; opened by German authorities. Paying 550 francs a month for hovel. Meals at inn, paying prices as high as Cannes. No butter, cheese, milk or eggs. Prefect of Basses Alpes gave safe conduct for him to collect winter clothing and silver from Grasse. Encloses letter from American Consul [MS Gen 1614/244]. Thought of travelling to Lisbon but difficult restrictions. Written few pages of new book on Stoics. Miss Brown has married Swiss artist Frey. Letter and card from Kate last week.
