Horrified by manner of Mrs Pulitzer's death. Will write to Ralph. Encloses copy of letter from New Jersey Board of Education [MS Gen 1614/50] and letter to Times on past winter. Kate arrived. Following Dryden's advice to write slowly. Essays await completion; probably too abstract. Begun novel. Renewed agreement for flat. Will probably go to lake with Kate for summer. Rowing next best exercise to riding; no horse here. Venn and Jim going to Oban. Cousin of Carnegie comes to Ospedaletti for winter. Visited by Bella Mowat's son, Somerset.
