Scope and Content

2 different talks and selections of slides, on the same subject - marked A and B. The subjects covered are very similar and appear to have been talks given to differing audiences. Talk A has 112 slides (in 3 small green slide boxes) and Talk B has 76 slides in 1 large grey slide tray). History of local markets including Almondbury, Kirkburton, Emley and Huddersfield up to the present day. Descriptions of the Cloth Hall, Beast Market and Kirkgate Market, both the building and the stalls and shops. Entertainment, including bull baiting and dog fighting. Theatres, including the New Theatre, Philosopical Hall (replaced by the Theatre Royal), the Empire, Hippodrome and Palace Theatre. Cinemas including Victoria Hall, Theatre deLux, Picturedrome, Picture House, Empire, Princess, Tudor, Plaza, Lounge, Regent, Excelda, Premier, Grand, Majestic and Ritz in Huddersfield. Lyceum (Moldgreen), Palace (Milnsbridge), Regal (Moldgreen), Electric (Marsden), Alhambra (Meltham), Cozy Nook (Salendine Nook), Carlton (was Palladium, Birkby), Waterloo, Rialto (Sheepridge), Savoy (Marsh), Palladium (Honley), Valley (Holmfirth), Savoy (Skelmanthorpe), Winston (Slaithwaite), Ritz (Golcar), Picture House (Kirkburton) . Thornton's Temperance Rooms for debates, chess, draughts etc. Choral and Music Societies, Mrs Sunderland and brass bands etc.
