Scope and Content

"Arie nel / Tigrane / del Signr Hasse / per il Flauto". Short score. Arias 'for the flute' (but with text) from Johann Adolf Hasse's "Il Tigrane" (ff. 1-106). Most of these are transposed and are lacking their orchestral ritornellos. Further arias from (an) unidentified opera(s) by Leonardo Leo (ff. 107-122) and from Leonardo Vinci's "L'Alessandro nell'Indie" (ff. 123-126). The title is taken from the spine. Hasse's "Il Tigrane", set to a text by F. Silvani, was first performed at Naples San Bartolomeo on 4 November 1729. All Hasse arias are preceded by a title page, with: "Il Tigrane. 1730. Del Sig: Gio: Adolfo Hasse [Incipit]". A concordance for this opera can be found in GB-Lam. Vinci's "L'Alessandro nell'Indie", set to a text by Metastasio, was first performed at Rome's Teatro delle Dame on 2 January 1730. Casing: vellum. Blank folios: 16v, 20v, 28v, 32v, 36v, 40v, 44v, 48v, 52v, 56v, 60v, 72v, 79v, 87v, 94v, 98v, 102r-v, 106v, 110v, 114v, 118v, 122v, 126v. 8-stave MS paper. Foliation added when catalogued. Arias by Hasse are in one hand, those by Leo and Vinci are in another. The "basso" (here catalogued as "bc") is not figured.
