Scope and Content

The Committee on Assistance to Foreign Scholars was established in the summer of 1933 to provide assistance to refugee academics from Nazi Germany. The Committee administered special two year research fellowships, which had been funded by local appeals and funds from the Academic Assistance Council in London. The minutes include biographical details of these academics, together with reports of their work at the University.

The Committee on Arrangements for Foreign Scholars was established by Council in January 1945 and first met in the following June. It was chaired by the vice-chancellor, and was responsible for inviting foreign academics to the University to undertake short-term projects.
