Scope and Content

Regarding an exhibition of Nash oils and watercolours held at Temple Newsam in 1943. The letters concern arrangements for the exhibition and the catalogue, its success, the return and temporary loss of some of the works, and an article Hendy wrote about Paul Nash for 'Horizon'. The article was interpreted by many as being unappreciative of Nash and these letters include one from Hendy to Nash explaining the article and one (draft) from Nash to Hendy objecting to it (TGA 7050/667-668). The letters also include reference to Barbara Hepworth sculptures which accompanied Nash's works, names of owners/ lenders of Nash pieces and notes by Nash and Margaret Nash(?) regarding paintings, lenders and arrangements (TGA 7050/662 and 669). TGA 7050/660 was torn through the centre but has been repaired.
