Thirty six letters relating to the preparation and publication of Paul Nash's autobiography 'Outline', published in 1949 as 'Outline, An Autobiography and Other Writings'.

This was the first time that Nash used Faber and Faber Ltd Publishers, but he did not survive to see his writings in print. The correspondence consists of letters from Faber and Faber, (seventeen letters from Richard de la Mare, one from R. King, Secretary to Richard de la Mare, and nine from C.W. Stewart, Manager), and seven letters from J. Ralph Pinker, James B. Pinker & Son, Literary, Dramatic and Film Agents. The Faber and Faber letters discuss all aspects of publishing Nash's book; their wish to publish a biography as opposed to an 'art book' (TGA 7050/605, 608 and 613); the papers, print methods and format (TGA 7050/605, 608, 615, and 620), the possibility of printing several volumes or serialising the writings (for the American market) (TGA 7050/618, 619 and 620); and Faber's advice for Nash to 'cut free' from his agent Pinker and Son, and his resulting publishing rights for an American serial (TGA 7050/621, 622, 623, 627, 629 and 631). The letters from Nash's agent Ralph Pinker generally concern the contract between Nash and Faber, Nash's advance fee and delivery of manuscripts. Also included are the copies of two typed letters from Paul Nash, one to J. Ralph Pinker (TGA 7050/610), the other to Richard de la Mare (TGA 7050/614), and a typed copy of a letter from C.D. Medley, Solicitor, Field Roscoe & Co., regarding the contract between Nash and Pinker in relation to Faber following Pinker's bankruptcy. Letters TGA 7050/621 and 626 feature pencil notes on reverse by Nash (TGA 7050/626 to do list (?)).
