Writes in answer to query why there are not more women in Parliament. Main reason is that party machinery is in the hands of men and therefore women candidates are normally allocated to unpromising constituencies. Also fact that elected member has a salary of £400. Counts against women 'for there remains a very strong prejudice that posts carrying a salary should go to men.'
