Concerns: his response to Newcastle's suggestion of resigning, encouraging him to think of the public need for his assistance at a time of war rather than his personal ill-treatment; hopes of peace seeming to be over according to Lord Bute and the papers; the reason for breakdown in peace negotiations either being the haughty manner of the British or change in the Councils of France; his concern about how Lord Bute treats Newcastle.
