Scope and Content

Volume of handwritten translations of Chinese Christian hymns into English. Includes the following inserts:

'English Supplement to Hymns of Universal Praise' published by the Chinese Church in London. Includes hymns translated by Rev A P Hadwen;

'Chinese Hymns No 1: May the Holy Spirit's Sword' translated into English by Rev A P Hadwen. Printed by the Methodist Missionary Society (2 copies);

two typescript hymns by T C Chao translated into English (probably by Hadwen).

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev Arthur Preston Hadwen (1899-1954) served as a Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society and Methodist Missionary Society missionary in their Wuchang District of China from 1925 until 1948.
