Scope and Content

Manuscript marked on inside cover 'C.H. Hocken Mysore 1883'. Contains text on right-hand side of volume in Kannada with summary of and commentary on it in English on left-hand side. English entries date from 25 May until 26 September 1884.

Two undated notebooks in the same hand (presumably Hocken's) were inserted at front of the manuscript. One notebook is notes and recorded thoughts on Christian theology whilst the other is on the relationship between Christianity and Hinduism with comments on key texts from both religions.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev Charles Hale Hocken (1846-1926) served the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society in their Mysore District from 1872 to 1893.
