This sub-fonds consist of 709 radiographs accumulated by Calvin Wells from his work and research in palaeopathology and medicine. The first series holds 531 radiographs of archaeological skeletal material analysed by Wells either for the purposes of publication or study. It includes radiographs of skeletal material excavated from several locations referred to Wells' bone reports, including sites in Norfolk, Suffolk, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire Hertfordshire, Northumberland, and the island of Iona. Additionally it contains radiographs of bones showing skeletal pathologies of particular interest to Wells' research, primarily Harris' lines.
The second series holds 178 clinical radiographs from Norwich and Norfolk Hospital. It is likely that these were radiographs of patients cared for by Calvin Wells and referred to the hospital to be x-rayed. The series contains radiographs of skulls, spines, ribs, hip, knee and ankle joints, and thoraxes.
