Scope and Content

Mail Art. A photocopy of 44a is the basis for the drawing on this envelope, that continues the theme of Musa's family "having fun" while he, in his self-portrait, is in a "black mood" thinking about the construction of 'blackness' in France through the famous performances of Baartman (1814-18) and Baker (1920's).

Acquisition Information

The donation was made to SOAS Library in June 2018 by Elsbeth Court, an academic who teaches African Art on the IFCELS course at SOAS, with the support and agreement of the artist Hassan Musa.
