Scope and Content

Loose material from David Wright, Metrical observations (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1980), consisting of a letter to Nicholson from Wright, in which he notes that he has been intending to send Nicholson this new collection of his for months, although he was away in Africa for his mother's 99th birthday when the book was published. He refers to an enquiry from a friend of Nicholson's about whether De Quincey lived at Wetheral; and comments on the lack of tourist traffic in Appleby in Westmorland, in contrast to the level of tourists who flock to Cumberland.

Dated at Appleby in Westmorland, Cumbria; typescript with autograph. Inserted inside front cover.
