Loose material from Seasons of the spirit: readings through the Christian year, selected and edited by George Every, Richard Harries and Kallistos Ware (London: SPCK, 1984), consisting of a letter to Nicholson from George [Every]. He notes that he is sending Nicholson a book [probably this volume], and hopes Nicholson is pleased with the primacy in it of [Nicholson's poem] 'Nobbut God'. He refers to Nicholson's early verse, which led Every himself, T.S. Eliot and Michael Roberts to encourage his work as a poet; despite this he feels that Nicholson's later work is much better, and [apparently concerned for Nicholson's long-term reputation as a writer] states his intention to dispose of early work in typescript as well as letters of Nicholson's in his possession. Every feels Nicholson is probably right in thinking that the PhD girls will not come in his direction, and mentions Peter Ackroyd [who it seems may have considered writing a study of Nicholson].
Letter sent from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands; holograph. Inserted inside front cover.
