Huntley Palmer Foods, Huntley and Palmer Foods plc

Established in 1921. In 1981 Rowntree Mackintosh was in a bid to buy Huntley and Palmers, then the UK's second largest biscuit manufacturer. The bid failed when it was referred to the Monopolies Commission. Huntley and Palmer Foods was subsequently acquired by the American National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) in 1982.
J. Huntley & Son biscuit bakery originally began business in 1822. In 1841 George Palmer had become the partner of Thomas Huntley and the business was renamed Huntley and Palmer. When William Isaac and Samuel Palmer join George as partners in 1857, the business was renamed Huntley & Palmers. It became a private limited company in 1898 and was renamed Huntley & Palmers Ltd. In 1921 the firm formed Associated Biscuit Manufacturers Ltd with Peek Frean of London.
