Administrative / Biographical History

Incorporated as British Automatic Chewing Sweet Co Ltd, 9 May 1929 (as a subsidiary company of Associated Automatic Chewing Sweet Co. Ltd), to deal with sales of Beech Nut Sweets. Renamed Automatic Chewing Sweet Sales Ltd, 5 December 1929. The assets of General Automatic Company Ltd and General Automatic Company (Scotland) Ltd were transferred to ACSS Ltd, 1931. It converted into a private company 1936 and ceased trading as a separate company, 27 March 1967. Assets were transferred to Rowntree and Co. in 1967. The functions of the company were carried out by the Sales Function, Vending Section of Rowntrees. The ACSS workshop became the Rowntree Vending workshop, within the Technical Division.
