Joseph Bellamy commenced his confectionery business in Leeds in 1870 and acquired a factory in Castleford in 1899. Bellamy converted the Mountain Nail Works in Queen Street into a liquorice refinery and confectionery factory. Later the company moved to Wheldale Mills. Joseph Bellamy and Sons Ltd was incorporated 25 April 1935 and amalgamated with John Mackintosh and Sons Ltd, 1964. The company became known for its mint imperials, French almonds as well as chocolate-covered liquorice allsorts. Renamed Anglo Bellamy Ltd, as from 31 December 1976 when the marketing, selling, distribution and administrative operations of Anglo Confectionery Ltd and Bellamy and Sons Ltd merged into a single company. (Renamed Dawnmyth Ltd, 27 November 1985).

Joseph Bellamy and Sons Ltd was renamed Anglo Bellamy Ltd from 31 December 1976, when the marketing, selling, distribution and administrative operations of Anglo Confectionery Ltd and Bellamy and Sons Ltd merged into a single company. Renamed Dawnmyth Ltd, 27 November 1985.
