Printed extracts of articles by A. W. Murray written between 1852 and 1853, including 'The Melanesian Mission' (from a paper issued from the St. John's College Press), which describes a voyage made to the islands of Melanesia on the Border Maid in 1852; a series of articles on the New Hebrides, including Fotuna or Eranan, Aneiteum, Tana, Eramanga, Fate; the New Caledonia Group, including the Isle of Pines, New Caledonia, Mare, Lifu; Niue, or Savage Island, and the Sandwich Islands. Loose clippings include 'The Bishop of New Zealand on the Melanesian Mission', from The Times, 25 May 1854, and 'A Polynesian Drama', from Leisure Hour, 1 Jan 1870.

Administrative / Biographical History

Archibald Wright Murray (1811-1892) was a missionary with the London Missionary Society in the South Seas, 1835-1871, and Papua New Guinea, 1871-1875.
