Scope and Content

Separately mounted, watercolour illustrations on Chinese paper. Each illustration depicts a different punishment or method of torture, including executions by strangulation and beheading. Painted in Canton. Undated [note: painting of decapitated head in bamboo basket includes Chinese inscription within the illustration giving the Chinese date of 7th year of the Qianqing period (Qing dynasty) - 1802].
