Administrative / Biographical History
Alfred Thomas Saville was born on 6 Aug 1839, at Birmingham. He was appointed to Huahine, South Seas, with the London Missionary Society, and sailed with Mrs Saville in the John Williams, 29 Jan 1866; arrived at Adelaide on 4 May, and proceeded to Sydney; left Sydney on 21 Aug for Aneiteium, visited the Loyalty Islands and thence to went on to Niue; on 16 Mar 1867, left Niue for Samoa, where they arrived on 20 Mar, and thence proceeded to Huahine, arriving there on 16 Apr. His health having failed, Alfred Saville left Tahiti on 20 May 1874, and returned to England. He resigned his connection from the Society in 1878. Mrs Saville died at Rye on 13 May 1903. Mr Saville retired from the ministry in 1915, and died later that year.

Donated to the London Missionary Society by Margaret Thornton, grand-daughter of Lillie Saville, in 1961. Some correspondence relating to the donation is pasted into the front of the volume.
