Scope and Content

To his mother describes a trip to Quetta where stayed with the Resident, Sir Aubrey Metcalfe [1883-1957, chief commissioner of Baluchistan]; (in a note Ridgway says Metcalfe's sons were Wykehamists - one John was a prisoner, other Pat was in the Indian Army). He mentions that evidence of the Quetta earthquake [1935] is still visible and not all rebuilding complete. Adds it is much colder in Quetta than Delhi. [Note appended that he and his wife were holidaying in Austria in 1951 when he met John Metcalfe, who later went into the drinks trade].
