Administrative / Biographical History

Pasolds Limited was established in 1939 out of an existing family business established by E.W. Pasold at Langley, Buckinghamshire. The company was registered no. 4139 at Companies House. In 1965 Pasolds was taken over by Coats Paton & Baldwin (later Coats Viyella, and Coats plc). Between the 1930s and 1980s Pasolds Limited acquired a number of existing clothing manufacturing companies and operated them as subsidiaries.

Fleming Reid and Company were worsted spinners and hosiery manufacturers based in Greenock, Scotland. They owned hundreds of branches of Scotch Wool and Hosiery Stores. The firm was taken over by Coats Viyella plc in 1968 and re-named Coats Patons (Retail) Ltd. The Register of Directors for Coats Patons (Retail) Ltd was subsequently used by Pasolds Limited, which was also a subsidiary of Coats Viyella.
