Scope and Content

This collection comprises of 59 items, including deeds and allied documents relating to lands called Cae'r Ffynnon Oer, Bryn Ceirch, Maes yr Odyn and others, in the township of Pencoed and the parishes of Llanarmon, Llangybi and Clynnog, co. Caernarfon, and also relating to Hafodgai and other properties, in the parishes of Llanenddwyn and Llanaber, co. Merioneth, 1511-1848; miscellaneous documents concerning the Evans families of Penybryn and Caderelwa in Llanarmon, 1675-1872; and transcripts of carols and other poems by Dafydd ap Dafydd Llwyd of Dolau Bran, William Davies, Jonathan Hughes, Dafydd Jones of Cefngwyn, Robert Rees, Robert ap Gwilym Ddu, Morris Roberts, Sion Ebrill, Sion Wyn o Eifion and Robert Williams of Llandygai.

Administrative / Biographical History

Ancestors of the owners of Broom Hall near Pwllheli include, Margaret (ca.1819-1880), daughter of William Jones of Ysgubor Hen, who married Owen Evans of Tyn y Coed, Aber-erch, Caernarfonshire (1816-1901); John Evans, grandfather of the aforesaid Owen Evans, who married Jane daughter of Sylvanus Jones of Graigisa and who died in 1834 leaving a son called John Evans; John Evans of Tyn y Coed, b. 1774, who married Ann, daughter of the late John Owen of Crafnant, Merionethshire and had a son, Owen Evans; Owen Evans who married Margaret, the only daughter and heir of William Jones of Broom Hall; Owen Lloyd Jones, son of Owen Evans, b. 1856 who married Lydia Elizabeth, the younger daughter of John Savin.
