Scope and Content

This volume contains the Kitāb al-Hidāyah, or the Nomocanon of Grigorius Bar-Hebraeus translated into Arabic Garshuni, with a brief colophon in Classical Syriac on f 174v. The work also contains a short account of fourteen church councils. A table of contents for the work, in a hand different from that of the main text, can be found on f 1r.The text of the work is copied in black ink with red used for titles and catchwords. There are various instances of geometric illumination in red and black ink at the start of sections throughout the text. A full-page matrix of small squares is found on f 1v, with some of the squares filled in with red, green, or orange ink in order to form one large and four small crosses, as well as as double-box border. Each of the boxes has a small circle in the centre outlined in black that has not been filled in with coloured ink. The volume measures 337 mm x 225 mm.The manuscript was copied in serṭā script in Mosul in 2135 AG (1823-24 CE) by Qas(īs) 'A(bd) al-Masīḥ ibn Isḥāq Tamlū al-Moṣulī, as recording in the colophon on f 174v.
